Roman Blind Measuring Guide

Fitting Inside the Window Reveal

Measure from the top of the reveal to the window sill in several places, as the reveal may not be perfectly square. Use the most suitable measurement as your finished length.

Measure the width at the narrowest point within the reveal. Subtract 1cm from this width to allow a 5mm clearance on each side — this is your finished width.

Tip: Ensure the blind clears any window handles. You may need to fit the mechanism to the ceiling of the reveal to achieve this.
Note: A complete blackout is not possible when fitting inside the reveal due to necessary clearances.

Fitting Outside the Window Reveal

As a guide, the top of the blind is typically placed above the reveal, and the hem sits 5–15cm below the sill (or at sill height if the sill projects).

Measure your finished length, then decide how much you'd like the blind to extend beyond the reveal on each side (usually at least 5cm per side, allowing for any obstructions). Add this overhang to your reveal width — this gives your finished width.

Note: While fitting outside the reveal improves light control, complete blackout cannot be guaranteed.
